Lady Tors are Ready

The Sulphur Golden Tor football team will close out their season with a 7 p.m. home game against Carencro Friday night.

Meanwhile the Sulphur High basketball and soccer teams are getting ready to take center stage.

Today we’ll take a look at the 1996-97 Lady Tor basketball team.

The Sulphur girls are under the direction of a new head coach. Former fore Helen LeFevre has taken over the Lady Tors. LeFevre, who has coached at Lady Tor-rival LaGrange High the past eight years, comes to Sulphur with a career record of 280-114 and one state championship in 12 years of coaching girls basketball.

LeFrevre’s teams have advanced to the playoffs in all 12 years she has coached, including a state championship and runner-up finish at Starks High School and four quarterfinal appearances at LaGrange.

In addition to LeFevre, former Sulphur head coach James Courville returns to serve as an assistant along with Todd Gorman. Gorman was head boys coach at Sam Houston last season.

Sulphur’s Lady Tors have been involved in two scrimmages. Last Tuesday they traveled to DeRidder and scrimmaged DeRidder and Rosepine.

"You can’t keep score in scrimmages but we beat both of them. I felt like our offense stood out but or defense was a little behind. We were out of position on defense a couple of times," said LeFevre.
